Norwood – Built Tough
History has proven that Norwood
sawmills are built tough – Original Norwood
portable sawmills from 1993 are still running strong. Many, many Norwood mills are operating two 8-hour shifts every day in some of the harshest conditions, milling some of the hardest exotic hardwoods in South America and Africa.
Why? Because Norwood invests in top-quality parts and fabrication technologies:
- 3-D laser (5-axis) and standard laser
- high-definition plasma-cutting
- computer numerical control ("C.N.C.") machining
- industrial-grade, rust-resistant powder-coating
- precision extrusion
- robotic welding
- zinc-dichromate plating
- smooth-operating sealed bearings
- precision-balanced cast-iron
- high-grade, heavy-gauge steel.
Increasingly, many sawmill companies are choosing to pad their margins by cutting costs and cutting corners. They're doing this in a couple of ways –
- They choose lower quality materials and processes. For example, many only wet-coat their equipment (basically just spray paint) or use bushings instead of sealed bearings in key components like carriage wheels. Norwood will not settle for anything that will not stand up to hard work.
- They import parts and even complete sawmills and planers/molders from developing countries like China, Taiwan and Poland.
Norwood will not follow down this path. We are proud to keep jobs at home. We are proud of the quality of our equipment.
You can count on the fact that we won’t sacrifice either. Every Norwood portable sawmill is quality-built right here at home.
