Portable sawmill questions & answers

Which Sawmill Is Right For Me? -

This depends on many factors including the size and type of your logs, your sawmilling objectives, be they professional or personal, and your production requirements.  Check out the specifications of all of Norwood's sawmills to help you decide which sawmill will work best for you.  Also, feel free to contact one of our experienced customer service consultants to help you make the right decision.

I Have No Sawmilling Experience.  Is That Okay? -

You're not alone!  Many of our customers never operated a sawmill before they bought their Norwood.  Our detailed, easy-to-read manual will help you get started.  And remember, when you invest in a Norwood sawmill, you receive lifetime toll-free technical support - Just pick up the phone and call us … We're here to help.  Finally, when you join the Norwood family, you can ask questions and share ideas with thousands of fellow Norwood owners all over North America and around the world in Norwood's online chat room.

Can I Cut Hardwoods With My Norwood? -

Absolutely!  Norwood customers routinely cut oak, ash, cherry, walnut, butternut, maple and birch - With beautiful results.

Is Norwood Equipment Reliable? -

You bet!  There are thousands of Norwood sawmills hard at work all over the world.  Many are being used two 8-hour shifts daily under some of the harshest conditions.  How? - Because we are determined to deliver only the highest-quality equipment to our customers.   We insist on nothing short of the precision and quality made possible by technologies like:

  • laser-cutting
  • high-definition plasma-cutting
  • computer numerical control ("C.N.C.") machining
  • industrial-grade rust-resistant powder-coating
  • zinc-dichromate plating
  • smooth-operating sealed bearings
  • high-grade, heavy-gauge steel.

Why is Norwood Equipment So Cost-Effective? -

Because we ship in knock-down form, we keep our shipping, warehousing and labor costs to a minimum.  We pass those savings on to you!  Depending on what kind of Norwood equipment you order, it usually only takes a day or two to assemble.

What Do You Mean by Customizable? -

You are unique - your sawmilling needs are unique too.  More importantly, your sawmilling needs will probably evolve and grow over time. No one size fits all.  Norwood's LumberMate is the only portable sawmill on the market that you can customize to suit your needs.  Select from an array of engine choices and a multitude of options.  Tailor your LumberMate to match your needs - Now or as your milling operation grows in the future.

Why Is The LumberMate Trailer Package Quick Connect/ Quick Disconnect? -

It only takes a few minutes to remove the axles and wheels from your LumberMate and lower it to the ground.  This means that the mill is rock-solid stable.  Also, because the bed is on the ground, loading logs is much easier and safer too.  Of course, if you want to mill small to medium-sized logs with your LumberMate on the trailer, simply add a set of optional support legs.

How Often Will My Blades Need Sharpening? -

Maintaining your blades is the single most important element of maintaining your sawmill.  While there is no hard and fast rule, we recommend that you change your blade every 2 - 4 hours of milling.  This is critical not just to making smooth cuts, but to helping your blades last longer.

How Do I Sharpen and Set My Blades? -

Norwood offers affordable, precision-machined sharpening and setting equipment.  These will quickly pay for themselves - You will save the high prices charged by others to perform this service, the freight costs there and back, and the aggravation of repeatedly packing, shipping, and waiting, waiting, waiting …

Do You Offer Financing? -

Yes, we can help arrange financing for any of our U.S. customers who live in the lower 48 states - Apply online now or call us toll-free at 1-800-567-0404.  If leasing works better for you, we can put customers in both Canada and the U.S. in touch with leasing companies that are familiar with Norwood and our products.

How Do I Get My Sawmill? -

We can ship your Norwood equipment right to your front door (provided your driveway is accessible to a transport truck).  Furthermore, we keep your shipping costs to a minimum.  How? - Because we ship in knock-down form.  Also, we enjoy substantial volume discounts with national freight companies and we pass those savings on to you.  Of course, if you prefer, you can pick up from either of our factory warehouses.

How Can I Order? -

To expedite your order, call us toll-free at 1-800-567-0404 to place your order and we will assist you with bank transfer instructions.  If you are in less of a hurry, simply mail or courier your order to us with a cashier's check.  If you would like to pay by Visa, you can place your order through Norwood's highly secure online shopping store.

How Quickly Can I Get my Sawmill? -

We keep all of our equipment in stock so that we can ship your order out within just 2-3 business days, not weeks or months.  Once your order leaves our factory, it usually takes a week to ten days to arrive at your door.

Is Shopping Online Secure? -

Norwood has implemented Verified by Visa ("V.B.V."), the very latest in online protection.  Norwood's online store was subjected to the most stringent level of testing.  Furthermore, we never see your credit card information; it is processed directly by Visa's authorized processing company.  To order from a V.B.V. site such as Norwood's, you have to first enroll in the V.B.V. program and obtain a personal identification number ("P.I.N.") similar to a debit card.  This is a very simple and quick process - Just follow the links in our online store.  Then, when you checkout, you will be prompted to enter your P.I.N. number to confirm that you are the owner of your credit card.
